Book Study Handout

St. Columba School
Faculty Summer Book Study

To continue our study of differentiation, teachers will participate in a summer book study. The book, The Differentiated Classroom: Responding to the Needs of All Learners, 2nd Edition, by Carol Ann Tomlinson, has been provided for you. The book was recommended by our workshop facilitator.

You may work at your own pace.  You will need to do the following:

1.    For each chapter, respond to an assigned question(s) in a notebook of your choice. The assigned question numbers are on the back of this handout. The questions can be found in the Study Guide at the back of the book.

2.    Post on our summer reading blog for each chapter.

Your entries and posts should focus on Math. As you know, you can integrate Math into any subject. If that truly doesn’t work for you, choose the subject you teach.

The deadline for completion of the reading/journaling and blog posts is August 1st. This should give you time to plan for classroom implementation. In planning for the upcoming year, you might want to use your Scantron scores for assistance.

The book study will come to a close in a meeting during Teacher Week. Bring your book and notebook to this meeting – date TBD – to facilitate discussions. A note about accountability: We are all adults. The ultimate goal with this study is to address the needs of each of our students, which in turn strengthens our academic program.
